THE GREEDY GO TO GRIEF

“The Greedy go to Grief”
By
J.L. Gupta
It was the year 1991. ‘Radiolinja’ had commercially launched the second generation 2G cellular telecom networks in Finland. A decade later, the 3G technology was commercially launched by ‘DoCoMo’ in Japan. The world is moving forward at a fast pace with the 4th generation technology. In diplomacy, the movement is from G5 to G20. And nearer home?
The government sold 2G spectrum. It left a sickening spectacle. Allegations of all kinds followed. The government promised to reach at the truth and punish the guilty. The CAG had given his findings. It was hoped that probably some action shall be seen. Nothing substantial was done. In any case, the corruption continued to corrode the system. With the passage of time, the greed only increased.
It appears that in India, everyone has his own perception of ‘G’. To some, it only means Gandhi. To some others, the gift of gab, grab and greed. They talk of principles. But act only on interest. Platitudes and promises were their forte. But they continued to grab. With every project, ‘Coal, Games’ or ‘2G’. Their appetite was ever increasing.  The greed continued to grow. Their numbers did not stop multiplying.
But the people still could not persuade themselves to accept the greed of the khadi clad clan for the pieces of paper that bear the portrait of Gandhi.
Will this brand of greedy ever go to grief? National elections, certainly held the hope. Will the country be rid of the perpetrators of corruption? The people could only hope and pray that the corrupt meet their end and are eliminated. Will it happen? Elections were announced. Dates were fixed. Massive Campaigns,  manifestos and then the polls followed. The 16th of May was fixed for the declaration of results. The people waited with baited breath.
God’s ways may be slow. But these are decisive. Today, the uncertainty has ended. Rajiv has been rejected. The Congress party under Sonia  has been actually decimated. Modi has got a massive mandate. The greedy have gone to grief! The people have rejected them in every nook and corner of the country.
What will they do now? Where will they hide themselves?

Modi knows that the country has gone through a long period of non-governance and policy paralysis. The Army & Borders need immediate  attention. The economy is in shambles. There is shortage everywhere.Beds are needed in hospitals;seats in schools, colleges and universities. There is no order despite a plethora of laws. He has to fulfil his promise of development and good governance. To achieve this, he must select his team on only merit. He is not bound to bother about the tantrums of his party members. He needs hardworking, selfless, and sincere workers. He must not allow sycophants to surround him. Otherwise, like the Gandhis, he too might go to grief at the next elections. Will he? We shall know in a few days.

  1. The Indian voters had their say and given their verdict. A mere victory predicted for Modi and BJP turned out to be a massive landslide. The next prime minister is certain to be Narendra Damodardas Modi.

Although Modi’s governance and economic agenda is tolerable, his credentials and approach towards the minorities is questionable. He is known to be a strong proponent of Hindutva, a virulent fascist ideology of a Hindu supremacy. The genesis from his fundamentalist views and his subconscious mind always had impression of Muslims as worthless subhuman.

His long-time observers describe him as a depressingly type; secretive; vindictive; flippant authoritarian; deeply polarized and narrow-minded. After the 2002 bloody and murderous riots all he said was: “his only regret about the mass murders was that he didn't handle the media well enough.”

He has close ties to unsavory, right-wing Hindu fanatics, notably in the RSS and with Amit Shah as his closest confidante whose attitude to Muslims might be euphemistically described as unwelcoming. Amit likes to talk about "appeasement" of Muslims and said this election was about ”taking revenge” on them.

India is world’s second most populous country and quickly rising to become an economic and military power. It happens to be an extremely ethnically and culturally diverse country, with severe religious divisions. India is predominantly a Hindu country but it also has 175 million Muslim citizens that make it the third largest Muslim country in the world after Indonesia and Pakistan. Modi and his followers must avoid the temptation of triumphalism. There exists a huge trust deficit that will require Modi to reach out to Muslims and other minorities to allay their apprehensions. Under his watch, he has to ensure that the notion of India as a pluralist and inclusive setting, where all citizens are equal before the law as per the constitution decree, is upheld consistently and transparently.

Not exactly an upbeat portent for a secular India but that was the choice people made. I wish Modi a successful governance and hope that the brighter days are indeed coming to our nation. It is also hoped that the human social aspects are improved particularly in his own “vibrant Gujrat” State where thousands of Muslims displaced by the 2002 riots still continue to huddle in relief colonies like Citizen Nagar, disconnected from schools, transportation, medical facilities and basic municipal services.

    Jai Hind
Bravo to 4 AAPs in Punjab State.

  2. Once again mind blowing title by the graceful writer proves that there are still thinking few who by their writing propels others to think and act.
Lord krishna gave Updesha to Arjuna in the middle of the battle field to fight for dharma . It seems the lord once again is guiding us to guard against greed in the present scenario of science , technology and electronic media. Bhagwan says , the rat race of man for his overwhelming desire to acquire all sorts of G's is the root cause of his sufferings. To grab he is selling his soul. Author wants us to change our attitude and look for a deeper reality as Greed has no end.
Author has firm faith in the laws of nature which works silently and slowly. The result of the present election indicate ultimately the truth comes.
Gandhi's are entrapped in their psychological prison of their desire to rule the country . All these years Sonia's focus was not on service but to see Rahul as the PM of India . Manmohan singh puppet of Sonia could hardly leave any impact on the hearts of people. Whereas Modi received heart ful farewell from the People of Gujrat for he walked the talked. Like kejriwal he has not run 100meter to win but has the experience of running marathon in politics due to his association with RSS and hs work as CM of Gujrat .
His humility and strong spiritual base can be seen from his body language and his words. His approach to the people in a kneeling position indicates that he belongs to them. His gesture of love and respect even for his opponents evokes a powerful response from them .

It is evident that there are going to be all kinds of ministers with different mind sets, inclinations and dispositions in his cabinet. Yet Modi guided by soul may create harmonious environment and inspire others to work for a higher purpose.
He is scaling in the top pinnacles of positive attitude as he has discovered that in reality, half glass of water is filled half with water and half with air. It is neither half full or half empty. With this vision Modi will not have to grief after 5 years but definitely push the people to work together for a brighter and stronger India.
