“Dr. Patrick – the Healer”
By
J.L. Gupta
Can a person wean away another from an old addiction or help him to get rid of an old habit? Can
a human being heal another without administering any medicine or even
physically touching him? Difficult questions. But I have some personal
experience. May I share?
I had smoked the first
cigarette in the year 1963. A purely casual acquaintance had gradually grown into an almost intimate affair. And then, I had fondly nursed my relationship with Ms. Nicotine. For
a long time. Factually, for more than four decades. In between, there was an interval when I had not touched a cigarette for as long as
ten years. Yet, the craving was always there. Finally, a stage had reached when
I had to make a choice between desire and distress. Mrs. Suganu Kapur, a
friend’s wife advised me to see Dr.Patrick. She actually organized the meeting. This was in Feb., 2007. I was face to face with Dr. Patrick. He asked me -"What can I do for you? Are you sure that you want to give up smoking?" A couple of questions more. Then, he offered me a seat. I sat in front of him. He kept standing. And then, he moved his hand as if to transmit some cosmic energy.
Dr. Patrick healing a child Again in 2013. I had a health problem. I went to Dr.Patrick. This time, I have seen him at work on various occasions. Healing hundreds every time he is in Delhi. People of all ages. With different kinds of problems throng to him. They tell their tales. He listens patiently. Always with a smile. I have heard myriad stories of change from a state of “hopelessness” to “hope”; miraculous change in the condition of the sick and sudden improvement in the physical condition of the terminally ill persons that has left the medicos wondering. I was curious to know more. Wanted to read about him, his method and mission. A click on the Computer tells “The Light Movement invites you to an experience of “The Absolute” through meditation and healing, guided by Patrick San Francesco and focused on the relaxation and cleansing of both mind and body. See more at: http://lightmovement.org/meditations%20#sthash.QRspC1ct.dpuf” The sentence tells everything. Relaxation and cleansing, I believe, are the two things that bring all the changes in the body of a sick person to make him happy and healthy. Every human being cannot do it. Only the blessed one can perform such miracles and help the needy. |

"In Baga, faith is the best medicine. Healing is not an individual’s effort. It is the process of channeling
the energy of the universe by anyone who has purity of spirit. This is what Dr
Patrick San Francesco believes and uses in his everyday life as Patrick the
Healer”
Having seen
Dr. Patrick at work, I am fully convinced about the truth of the above statement. He
has helped, healed and given hope to a large number of suffering human beings.
He takes care of all – the poor & rich, young & old. Without charging any
fee or demanding anything in return. It is comforting to be in his presence. One feels full of hope and totally relaxed. It appears that God has made men like Dr. Patrick in his own image. To help the needy. And he is doing it in a great measure. He is giving help & hope to everyone who goes to him. May he continue to be a beacon of light to the needy. May the Lord continue to bless Patrick, his mission, patients and projects! May his tribe flourish!
Sir, Patrick's mission could not have been better explained.
ReplyDeleteI, as a 'Patrickite' have also noticed his great ability to downplay misery and ill health by almost mocking them away. The implicit faith he generates in most makes them happily reckless with the certainty in their minds that they are being 'taken care of'.
Patrick comes as a whiff of fresh air and light for thousands. His amazing prowess will remain enigmatic and unexplained to many but who wants to know? Initially I wanted to know how Patrick 'works' and did get to know a bit when I attended his workshop but then I thought to myself, do I really want to know? I almost thought that wanting to know how he worked was like doubting my faith in him. But then Patrick wants us all to be able to pass on the healing, so one should know - therein lies a dilemma?!
Christian Science has abundance of faith healers in the US who are fancy globetrotters and heal their believers by praying and themselves living a luxurious life on donations by the victims. There are many horror stories about their moral and ethical conducts. The Goan self-styled “Dr.” Patrick San Francesco is no different. He is definitely not a doctor of medicine. He is just smarter than those who believe in his power of intercessory prayers and urge to throw money.
ReplyDeleteThere is no scientific study that has proved that faith healing ever cured anyone of biological and chronic diseases. Meditation and prayer might help in functional sicknesses where the symptoms are bodily reactions to tension and tension being the root cause of many ailments. Prayer may help some people feel reassured when they are worried, but it makes more sense to spend one's time and energy on more constructive health-promoting activities. People who visit "healers" may feel better because of the experience that causes them to relax or because of healer’s demeanour and reassuring effect. On the other hand those who are not comforted may conclude that they are "unworthy" and become disheartened as a result. The fruitless experience with a faith healer and the money spent could be very depressing.
It is surprising though that a person of wisdom and logical mind would ever believe in healing powers possessed by another human being without any anatomical knowledge.
Mark Twain wrote in his book Christian Science (btw, available free at www.gutenberg.org): “The wonderful influence of imagination in the cure of diseases is well known. A motion of the hand, or a glance of the eye, will throw a weak and credulous patient into a fit; and a pill made of bread, if taken with sufficient faith, will operate a cure better than all the drugs in the pharmacopœia.”

DeleteTell me, have you actually tried Patrick's treatment? I think not, as nothing in your post suggests so. Therefore you probably fall into the mysterious category of visionaries who are able to pronounce devastatingly accurate prophecies/opinions without having the faintest idea of what they are talking about. Please understand, I do not wish to give offense or rule anything out of hand; I am a fairly logical person and I don't know how Patrik does it, but in my book, if it works, I believe it. I've seen a growth inside my body disappear in a week, with nothing happening in between, except 2 minutes with Patrik while he did his stuff.
DeleteSo maybe there ARE a few things you don't know. Remember the similarity beween the human mind and a parachute - they both work best when open!
Cheers!
Yes Ganny,
Delete"There are known knowns; there are things that we know that we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know.
According to Donald Rumsfeld, United States Secretary of Defense when questioned about the WMD in Saddam's arsenal.
My dilemma just worsened. Do I say more or let the water find its own level? I have decided to say more, not in Patrick’s defence or faith healers’ support but for the correct perspective based not on a fragile perception but on facts. In order that those virtually on the brink due to a serious ailment and suffering, and who, after having exhausted all their medical and financial options, are not prematurely put off without being allowed to answer their own calling or make their own judgement.
ReplyDeleteI have no connection with Patrick’s foundation nor am I a volunteer. I only shudder to think of what I would have been deprived of if, at the time of diagnosis of my own ailment, soon after many well-wishers nudged me to ‘try Patrick’, someone had planted a seed of suspicion or doubt in my mind.
Justice Gupta is an honourable man. He has merely shared his own experience out of a sense of responsibility towards others who he thinks might similarly benefit, and perhaps out of gratitude. He makes it a point to come to Patrick for healing even when in pain and discomfort (due to his own ailment) and enjoys the general ambience of laughter, joy, compassion and good will that is all pervasive and infectious, ironically and magically where nearly everyone present has an ailment or two, a large percentage being life threatening. Can we fault this? Even though he retired as the Chief Justice of a High Court, Justice Gupta did not pass his ‘judgement’, he merely shared his own experience out of pure goodness
Having seen for myself over the last four years and a bit the tremendous healing from ailments, mitigation of pain and suffering, erasing of emotional scars and restoration of emotional health, the sheer joy and happiness to orphans, homeless slum children and prisoners’ families flowing happily in abundance from Patrick, do I need any one’s certificate about his ‘efficacy’ or motive and should I care or should it be my business to know about his personal life or style of living? And luxurious living? Just for the record, I have never seen Patrick dressed in anything other than worn out jeans / track pant and a limp T-shirt. And this regardless of whether there is rain, hail or snow. But just for argument’s sake, I am not aware of any medical doctor who lives in poverty. In fact, the better the doctor, the more luxurious his living!

ReplyDeleteWe know it for a fact that Patrick does amazing charity work across India which is there for everyone to see and for many to feel. He is making a difference to the lives of thousands, making them happy, making them light and shed their burdens in a very realistic and practical way. It will require a separate blog to write about the charity work being done pan India.
We go to Patrick of our own accord. He does not solicit. If we do go to him, it is for us to stop if we do not feel it necessary. If he were aspiring for ‘luxurious living’ through us ‘victims’ he would not be conducting workshops to train us to become healers! And it is at the 3 day workshops that he devotes more than a day to teach human anatomy. To the best of my knowledge, he has done medicine and even doctors have come to him for healing.
At the healing, we have seen that hordes of slum children and the destitute are ushered out of turn into the long waiting queue ahead of those holding ‘waiting coupons’. Does Patrick expect donations from these slum children and the destitute? It is the ones waiting with coupons who may, if they so wish, make some contribution and who do so only in gratitude and to contribute towards the charity work.
Patrick is often loosely called a faith healer or a spiritual healer. In my book, after attending his workshop, he is a scientific healer in his own right. And of course faith helps. Is it not a known fact that courage springs from faith? Dr. Arvind Nigam, an eminent surgeon, alludes to this in his book ’40 minutes with God’ In any case, as I said in my earlier comment, do I really want to know how Patrick heals? It is the results that matter. If he is able to reduce suffering, heal, bring happiness in people’s lives, erase emotional scars, make a difference to the destitute and needy, does it really matter whether he does so by a scientific method or by waving a wand or if faith in him has a placebo effect? And of course I do not think there would be 100% results just as there are no 100% results in the medical world.
It’s a free world and any one can say anything but when it comes to healing one needs to be more careful. A sweeping generalisation cannot be offloaded like a careless, casual bird dropping. It is perception that can colour something good or bad.
Was it not Aldous Huxley who said, “There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception?”

i went to patrick for a few years. the strange thing is that the same people come all the time and no one gets healed. i think that what he does with his NGO's is great, i think he helps poor people in need, but i don't think he heals anyone, i feel its all a show for his other work
ReplyDeleteHe collects Rs 300 from each person who visits him and does not even give a recepit. why would any 'honest' person do that?
ReplyDeleteRachna, I fail to uderstand why would you say such a horrible lie. He never does that and never did. If you cannot sow a seed of faithfulness , please refrain from telling a lie. As a matter of fact, people would not find anyone so loving , kind and generous. He heals for free, without any expectations. He has changed many people's lives and helped them emerge victorious from their mysery of sickness, mental and financial poverty, stress , anxiety and much more. I have been visting him for years now. I have never experienced such a thing. Its a free will if you would like to donate, that too, for a foundation he runs which is not only helping people in India but also worldwide. I know I am years late in replying but I would humbly request you to stop spreading lies. Please do not bring him a false disgrace if you cannot give him a sincere honour. Live for truth not lies.
